Sacred Tree

This species of large tree (not sure what its name is) is found near many temples and shrines in Japan, and are often considered sacred. Others that aren't are often maintained by the community, and grow into truly spectacular trees, like this one in Kyoto. 2004

Edit: I think this might be a Camphor tree like in this photo here, [link] the same kind shown in the animated movie My Neighbor Totoro
